ZEON CORPORATION (President and CEO: Naozumi Furukawa) has developed ZEONEX® K26R, a high-transparent thermoplastic resin which is specially developed for the Smartphone camera lens application.
ZEONEX® has been widely used for mobile phone camera lenses and contributed to the progress of camera performance since the last decade. Recently it has become necessary to make the camera module in the mobile phone smaller and thinner in line with the evolution of Smartphones or tablet PCs. To make the camera module smaller and thinner, each lens in the module also needs to be thinner, and the moldability of plastic resin becomes more critical Higher image quality is also required to get clear pictures on the Smartphone which has a bigger screen.
New grade ZEONEX® K26R is designed to meet the above market requirement and is expected to be able to accommodate easy molding for thinner lenses with low birefringence. ZEONEX® K26R makes it possible to reduce the lens thickness approximately by 50% comparing to that of conventional lenses.
Beginning in September 2012 ZEONEX® K26R will be sampled, and ZEON expects 1,000 million JPY or more sales with this grade in 2014.
